Carr and Cake
Another post to bring you late breaking news. Today I faxed in my registration form for a continuing studies class at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. I am hoping to get into a print making class where we will do: intaglio (drypoint), lithography, and linocut prints. I am very excited to learn more about printmaking. We did a little in highschool but I've done nothing since then. I think that I will love it since it can combine photography and painting. I am a little nervous about actually taking a class at Emily Carr, intimidated. I have resolved that I will be friendly and introduce myself to whomever I am nearby.
I just read that last line and snickered to myself - OF COURSE I WILL BE FRIENDLY - I'm pretty much always friendly. I meant that I'd take more initiative to communicate with others and not just wait for them to talk to me. As I am growing up I am realizing that in situations like this I don't really have anything to lose, so why not just be bold.
Signing up for this class is another step towards fulfilling my recently discovered/awakened dream of going to Art school and becoming more of an artist.
I almost registered for another class - about graphic design. I decided instead to read the manual for the program I use - this will be free and flexible as far as classtimes, and there will be no commute. I just need to be disciplined, I think I can do it.
Well, I know there are tons of things to do -- I'm mostly not thinking about them.
I made quick cake mix cookies as a treat for the girls who've been cleaning - it's 1:30 now and no one has come. I have eaten a third of a cookie and will likely end up eating the rest before too long.
Here is the recipe for the cookies:
1 cake mix (I used Duncan Heinz Fudge Marble, Devil's food works great too) 2 eggs 1/2 cup oil
mix together well bake at 325 for 10-12 min (they don't look done)
Enjoy.
Okay, now I'll go. Hope you are all well.

Hectic end of the year
Well the school year for our students will be over on Saturday. Today is dorm clean-up day. I'm in charge of supervising the cleaning of the girls dorm. I made and posted lists and at the bottom wrote that when they are totally done they should get me to check and I'll give them a treat. Now I have a couple hours to think of a treat. Maybe the cake mix I have in my cupboard will come in handy. Fruit would work too, since they're kind of fruit deprived.
Yesterday was my last art class - it went well. As a bonus (on top of what they agreed to pay me) I received a twenty dollar gift certificate to our local Christian book store. I was somewhat amused by this because I'm sure the lady doesn't know that my dad owns a huge Christian book store at which I get a lovely discount. Anyways the giftcertificate was perfect because I had just been to that store and found a sale book for 9.99 that I was planning to buy. I went yesterday and got it - "Travelling light" by Max Lucado. The subtitle is something like, "releasing burdens you were never meant to carry" Each chapter is about a specific burden -- worry, fear etc. I look forward to reading it.
Our year end retreat went great. Of course I was tense and worried at times, as I often tend to be. I will share one somewhat humorous worry with you. Two hikes were scheduled for the last day of the retreat - one more difficult and to a cave, one easier and up a mountain. Lance and I planned to go on the mountain hike. Our outdoor rec. director said to Lance and I the night before the hike, "Next year you guys will do the cave hike". Some additional information is of value - I don't like dark tight spaces and don't really -at all- want to do the cave hike.
As we were about to go to sleep I said to Lance, "I'm worried about a lot of little things" He said, "what are you worried about?" I began telling him, and finished with, "and I'm worried about doing the cave hike next year". He chuckled and tenderly said with concern, "oh aimee". Yes, that's right, I had been worrying about something that was a whole year away. Lance is helping me to not be a worrier. I'm grateful.
I think I should go and get some sort of treat ready in case some girls finish really quick.
bye.

Retreat
Hi guys. Today Lance and I head off with the students and staff of our school for the yearend retreat. I have no official responsibilities and so I'm planning on using this time to relax. I need to pack in 5 minutes so I'll try to blog quickly.
I've been teaching an art class for homeschooled kids ages 12-16. I taught some classes at our arts centre last year and through that was brought into contact with a lady who organizes special classes for homeschoolers. I'm teaching pencil drawing for three two hour sessions. The classes are held at our public library. I have 22 students. I couldn't believe the response to the class. At the art centre I'd be lucky to get 6 kids. I really enjoy teaching this age group. We have tons of fun and joke around and laugh a lot. The kids are great. The positive prejudice I have about homeschooled kids is that they are respectful (yet mischievous), intelligent and fun. This has been confirmed yet again by these students (as well as by the Abarbanel clan). I initially wasn't looking forward to doing these classes -- it's a really busy time of year for me -- but have absolutely loved the two I've taught. There's just one left, but the lady who organized the classes has been talking to me about filling up my schedule with classes in the fall. I'd love to teach an art history/appreciation class. We'll see.
Okay, that's all for now. Have a good day my friends.
Oh, and I'd like to point out that my cousin (the cool one who was mistaken for my sister) has signed the guestbook. Welcome Erin.
bye.

Quick Quote
I read some of the Abarbalog to Lance today. After I read him the disclaimer Katelyn wrote at the end of her blog about bullets and groin-protection he said:
"She is a character that girl. Look out world!"
Katelyn, I hope that you take this as the compliment it is. You are so expressive, thoughtful and creative. We love it that you aren't squashed into a box but are free. It will be so fun to finally meet you. (when this will be we don't know)
I'm feeling yucky tonight - headachy - so I better get going. More later.

New Links
Two blogs in one day, pretty impressive eh?
I need to announce that my mother, Kathleen Marie Klassen (Kathy) has started a blog. I love reading it and maybe you'd like to stop by too. I added it to my links.
As promised earlier I've added Kristal to my links - some of you have already become aquainted with her via a link from Heidi's blog.
Lance can't get over how many blogs I read. I really like the connections that can be made and re-made through this mode of communication.
bye.

Hello Friends
Hi guys.
Since I've last blogged a lot has happened.
Lance and I went on choir tour. It was fun and tiring. Platinum Blonde readers will know that she came to my concert in Surrey (with spandexboy). I wasn't sure if she'd be able to come so it was a lovely (read: exciting, excellent, joyous) surprise to see both Melanie and Nathan. We got to go out for coffee after with my mom too (who also loves Melanie and Nathan).
PB readers will also know that Melanie made me a care package. What a treat. Here are some of the items included in the package: Junior mint chapstick (Melanie bought me this instead of candy - since I can't have sugar. It tastes like candy and smells great) Daisy barrettes. A nail clippers, tweezers, scissors set. A baggy filled with "just in case" items (motrin, bandaids, girly things, echinacea - so I could stay healthy even if I didn't get to eat as well as I would've liked) A slinky (this cracked us up, but you never know when you will need a slinky) A book on loan from Jody - "Girl Meets God". I just finished the book - man was it good. I absolutely love memoirs. I also love learning about Jewish people and their customs and history. Well this book is a memoir about a girls journey into, and out of, Orthodox Judaism and how Jesus captured her mind. The best part about this book is that the author, Lauren Winner, is so honest about her faith struggles - so real and hopeful at the same time. She reminded me of Melanie, so that was especially nice.
Another highlight of the trip was getting to see my family. We spent two nights at my parents house and got to see my whole immediate family as well as both sets of Grandparents and even my oldest cousin and her two boys. I felt very supported having some of my extended family at my concert in Mission.
A side note about my cousin Erin. Erin is about 6 months older than Cara - which makes her two years older than me. Cara and I spent tons of time hanging out with Erin during our growing up years. We thought she was so cool. She gave us stylish hand-me-downs (I was particularly fond of a pair of bleached cut off jean shorts, which now, come to think of it, weren't really in style at all by the time I got them, but boy did I like them). She died her hair, wore bikinis, and was just all around cool. So there's some background. Anyways some of the choir members saw me talking with her and later asked if she was my sister. It was fun to have her be mistaken for a sister - it brought back feelings of "coolness" from when I was little. It was also neat to think that we share family resemblances. Her, Cara and I all have some similarities. I think some students had seen Cara there as well and said, but you do have a sister right? Cara and I look way more similar than Erin and I -- so it's pretty much guarenteed that people will know we're sisters.
It was great to see Cara and baby Sarah too. We got to have a mini-visit the morning we left. It was good to connect (quick but deep). I love my sister.
I didn't really want to leave Abbotsford. It was so good to be around my family and back in homey places. We'll be back there for much of the summer (starting in May) so I don't really have to wait long.
Well that's a bit about tour. I got back feeling like I was too old for this. I don't think I'll be in choir next year. I'd like to dedicate my time to other things.
Okay. I had better go. Today I teach my first of three drawing classes to homeschooled teenagers. I need to have a snack and then finalized my preparations. I could use some prayer for this.
This update brought us to the beginning of April and much has happened since then - you can expect more frequent blogging.
Hope you are well.
