two bowls of cereal instead |
I started writing this a couple days ago:
since 1:30 this afternoon supper has been planned. meatballs. this in unusual in the odegard home -- not meatballs, but that supper be planned so early in the day. but don't be fooled, this was to be a simple no work supper. the meatballs were frozen with gravy and hashbrowns and given to us by someone from our church, who will remain nameless, only because I don't actually know who they were from -- we were given a ton of casseroles from church after Eva and Elijah were born.
The note on the container said, "just heat and serve". I knew the meatballs would take a long time to heat up and I was prepared for that. I put them in the oven around 4. About an hour into cooking I smashed up the icy block of meatballs, only to discover that the centers of the meatballs were bright pink.
Now you must know that I am paranoid when it comes to pink hamburger (thanks mom). I check every hamburger I eat (okay well not McDonalds, but is that even meat?). And on many occassions have discovered pink in the center of my burger, both at restaraunts and in homes. So when I dug into these meatballs and saw pink I was not happy.
It is also important to know that I have only made meatballs once in my life and don't do much cooking to begin with, so I don't really know what meatballs are supposed to look like inside. But pink?
After another couple hours of cooking I called mom. She recommend more cooking.
Well, it is now 8pm. The meatballs have been smashed to smithereens -- they now resemble dog food. They, or should I say, it (referring to the goulash) are still pink. Good grief. Lance had to go back to work, he had an apple and a scone with cream cheese. I'm holding out hope, not much though, for the meatballs, and in the mean time I have eaten two bowls of cereal.
At 8:41 I removed the "meatballs" from the oven, still some pink spots. I abandoned this effort. When he got home from worked Lance said he didn't want to eat them, I said, "don't worry". I threw them out the next morning. I'm not a fan of waste, but those meatballs were suspicious.
Explanation photo regarding sleepover at Grammy and Gramps':

As you can see I boiled the pot completely dry while trying to sterilize a nipple and ring so Eva could practice taking a bottle. We heard a bubbling popping hissing sound from the other room and ran into the kitchen to discover flames -- about 8 inches above the pot height. Lance put the lid on the pot, only to have it explode off. He ran outside with the pot and set it flaming on our backyard sidewalk. While still nursing Elijah I rush outside to the deck. Lance carries Eva out in her bouncy chair. From there we move to the garage because the fumes on the deck are too strong. Me and the kids hang out in the garage, dressed warmly after I rummage through our bins of clothes yet to be sorted and brought in. Lance throws open all the windows and turns on the fans. We wait about half an hour. Lance goes back in to check on the fume level. Too gross to stay. We called Odegards and arrived there around 10:30pm. As we were hanging out in the garage Lance says to me, "Well I'm sure you won't do that again", and the thing is, I couldn't agree -- I am a forgetful girl. And I say, it's a good thing we're not using formula for these kids, that's a whole bunch more bottles, meaning more chances to boil a pot dry. Oh dear.
Tidbits:
Lance and I went to a movie last night. I can hardly believe it. We saw "man of the year". Mostly good, some good laughs, some crass humor, not really a cohesive story, but it was good.
I've gotten to play basketball with the CLBI students 2 times now. They play a couple times a week and I've watched a couple times -- Lance plays. But two times now I have gotten to play. We set the kids in their carseats on the sidelines, guarded by a floor hockey net. Whoever is subbing off gets to rock or swing the seat of whoever might be fussy. I love getting to get out and play. It is such a normal "pre-baby" thing to do and I love that I can still do it. I got a couple baskets today - that is always fun.
I had a marvelous time in Abbotsford. A super highlight was getting to go to Lance's thursday night show in vancouver. At intermission I talked to Lance and he said with surprise, " you're still here!". I had a cell phone on vibrate so Celia and Adam - our brave babysitters who live like 7 minutes from the concert site - could call if Eva and Elijah were getting out of hand. I held the phone in my hand the whole evening, and when the show was over wondered if I had given them the wrong number. Oh well, no sense worrying about that then. When we arrived to pick up the twins -- three hours after dropping them off -- Celia was attempting to give Eva her bottle (Eva is not at all keen on bottles, Celia said she took a little milk, but maybe just to humor her) and Adam was doing figure eights in with Elijah in the stroller. What a gift it was to have them care for the kids while I went to the show. Visit Celia's blog to read about their evening: www.kinneyland.blogspot.com.
I'm reading Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell. I highly recommend it. He writes well about what being a Christian might look like. He presents his thoughts creatively, intelligently and humorously. I highly recommend it.
Right now my babies are sleeping, they are so beautiful.
well that is all for now.
I hope you are well.

At least you can laugh about the whole bottle warming experience now. Chances are that I would probably have done the same thing! My memory since having Chelsea is absolutely poor! I used to remember EVERYTHING. Glad your getting out there and playing basketball. Good for you! Also happy that your trip to BC was great!

I did that once with soothers but I actually left the house to go grocery shopping and came home to smoke billowing out the windows. Thankfully no flames. I just don't sterilize anything anymore.
I know I don't really know you but I check your blog often and pray for you. I'm glad things are going well for your family.

Wow!!! Aimee I can't believe that happened to you four...that's scary. Good thing God was watching out for you all and that the flames were contained and eventually went out. Crazy times though! I couldn't believe it...I read it aloud to Jeff too. He LOL at Lance's response to it all and to what he said to you. I think you getting out to play is very wise. Good for you~ I'm glad to hear all is well...Thanks for letting me know you too have trouble cooking Aimee, it makes me feel better to know that I'm not the only one that has troubles, thank-you.
