Eva Grace and getting away

Today Eva woke up from her nap cranky, this is not usual. I laid on the couch in her room and she snuggled on my chest. I made up some stories for her. Papa appeared in one of the stories. At the mention of his name she haltingly said, "Papa at school. Come back at supper"

She has been giving us a run for our money (what money) in terms of needing to get creative to head off her gigantic explosions which can be caused by not getting the right cup for her milk, to her brother accidentally knocking over a toy cup she was playing with.

Today I came across the book, "Raising Your Spirited Child: A Guide for Parents Whose Child Is More Intense, Sensitive, Perceptive, Persistent, Energetic" by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka. The title grabbed my attention, and the subtitle had me hooked. I emailed it to Lance with the caption, "sound like anyone you know?" I have it on order at the library. It looked very good from the views I've read. Sounded balanced -as in, your kid is not going to rule the roost, and you are not going to crush her will into submission. Really seems to emphasize the positves of the spirited temperament. Have you read it? What did you think?

Lance is playing at a coffeehouse tonight and I am at home researching lodging and event ideas for our upcoming anniversary getaway. Yes, that's right, we will be leaving our children overnight for the first time ever. I should correct that, it will be my first time away from the kids overnight and consequently Grammy and Gramps' first time having a sleepover with Eva and Elijah. I am very excited, but trying to temper my I-hope-this-will-be-the-best-weekend-ever feelings, so as not to put undue pressure on our time away.

So I know you'll laugh at me (in the most kind way I'm sure) but I actually am looking into the U of A for accommodations. Do you have any idea how cheap those rooms are? I mean, are two twin beds really so bad... on an anniversary getaway? No, they do have rooms with doubles, unfortunately the queen rooms are all taken. Okay, but here's my pitch for the dorms, if we cheap out on accomodations (and really, they'll probably be clean and that's what you really need) then we can use the money we would've spent on a hotel and use it for fun stuff like eating out at cool places and seeing a show. I'll have to let you know how Lance responds to my crazy idea.

Alright I better go.

Aimee, she's beautiful that Eva and from the sounds of it, a perfect mix of you and Lance :)
I meant to comment on your last blog - I absolutely enjoy reading the day to day life of a mom and a wife. I think those are the best kind of blogs...and the most interesting stories!

When I read about Eva getting upset about not getting the sippy cup she wanted it reminded me of a little 2 year old girl who lives at our place...hmmm...I think I need to read that book too! Let me know how it is!

By the description, I'd say I probably needed that book for a little brother we know and love :)
Let me know if Grandma Kathy should read it.

I think staying in a dorm is great idea! Jeff would probably laugh at me and say, "are you crazy?" if I mentioned it to him.

I had him read the post about Lance too, and said, "does that remind you of someone?" He said, "I'd be so mad at you if you ever posted something like this about me." haha Lance is brave, but you, you are even braver!!

Hope you have a great anniversary. and please if you visit Yokoso, please please comment. Everyone I talked to in person says, ya I visit yokoso, but they never comment. That's when I ask, "why?" I think it's a polite thing to do, don't you?

I've never heard of that book before, but I really want to meet Eva now.

Eva sounds like a couple of my little girls. I should look for that book too. I hope you'll write about it here.

I need to look up that book. My 2 year old is giving me a run for my imaginary money too.

I agree with your dorm idea and going Leve it To Beaver for a night in two twin beds. The money saved is much better used on fun stuff instead of sleeping. Snuggle on a twin for a while.

On our last holiday we slept mostly in two single beds. A 1950s TV sitcom sort of romance...but worth it to splurge in other areas for sure!

Aimee, you are so smart. Katelyn suggested this book to me when Logan was but a smaller sized whirlwind. I didn't think it applied. But you know, today reading your blog, as you described the book, I thought "gee, that sounds A LOT like him...y'know, she might've been onto something." I'll be next in line requesting that book.

i have had that book recommended to me SO many times, its unreal! apparently, a lot of moms find it super helpful. i just may have to finally reserve it at the library as well!

when josh and i vacationed in the uk a couple of years ago, we stayed one night in a hotel with 2 twin beds. it was actually so fun! we both tried to fit into one for awhile, just cuddling, then said "goodnight" and he went off to his bed and then we kept whispering things back and forth to each other. it sort of felt like a sleepover!
