catching up |
on down time. We are a worn out crew at the Odegard house. Our weekend was wildly full with wonderful events - grad banquet, ceremony, luncheon, church, baptism, baptism lunch, birthday supper... Today Lance had the day off and we laid low. Cancelled today's plans with Zipricks because the younger members of our family were especially feeling the over stimulation of the weekend. Eva was absolutely wild with frustration and intense restaurant filling screams last night at Gramp's birthday supper. Today I'm feeling yucky with a cold - that Lance and the kids are just getting over. I get sick so seldom that I don't do it very well.
But we have had a lovely day. It's finally warm here and our snow has (once again) disappeared. The backyard is dry enough to play in so we spent tonnes of time out there today. I'm sure I got new freckles! (my friend Pete, who is truly freckled disputes that I have freckles at all, but I do, they're just token summer ones and I like them). Lots of hockey. Racing. Car driving. Pine cone collecting. Snow stomping in the 2ft by 2ft section that we have left. And the highlight for the kids and I was finding ladybugs. The just loved watching them and I loved showing the kids them. Eva got to hold one and didn't even squish it. Later she found one all by herself and called us over to share in her discover. She says "ladybug" just perfectly, very cute. Lance barbequed burgers tonight (yes they were lentil/beef ones, half and half this time, consensus is that there were too many lentils, but still tasty) We ate our first meal of the season on the deck. It wasn't even chilly at all.
Now Lance has taken the kids to wash the car so I can have a little break before bedtime.
We have been gradually reclaiming the house after a LONG housecleaning hiatus. Walking in our living room with barefeet was getting yucky - and annoying, all those crums were just about enough to put me over the edge!
Speaking of the edge... I have been living there a lot lately. But am looking forward to little by little stepping further and further away from it. Having a husband who's home more now that school is done, and more rest, better health, realigned perspective, spring weather, getting outside, remember who has the whole world - including me, my worries, my family- in his hands, loosening my grip on the world (since he's got it anyway) will all help this moving in the right direction. I am hopeful. Today helped a lot.
Tomorrow I take Elijah up to Edmonton to have an after surgery check-up. He seems to be doing really well. No pain medication today or yesterday. He only complains during diaper changes or if he gets bumped in that sensitive area. Hoping that the doctor will say everything still looks good. It will be months before we really know.
Okay better wrap it up. One last thought - can you believe we have mosquitoes already!!!! Our snow just melted. Does that seem fair to you? We had our doors open a lot today, thinking that it was too early for bugs. We were wrong. I just killed one as I type. Jeepers (does anyone say that anymore?)
Hope you are well.

Andy has noted some mosquitos as well. My new fancy exciting idea for our house this year is mosquito nets for our beds. We have those no-see-ums that come right through the screens too... Good to hear your thoughts in this post. Love you.

no mosquitos in our house, but then again, we do have 3 cats. The perfect remedy for bugs! Speaking of cats, my baby is is crying at the door. Aw,I have to sleep the same schedule as her if I want any sleep at all, because I don't allow the cats in the bedroom's. Grr...
I'm glad you were able to get some deck and yard time. I think seeing children's faces at first discoveries is the BEST experience ever!!

Yup I still say "Jeepers" and I'm younger! :) :)

I prefer 'oy'. but 'jeepers' is at least a step above 'golly', so I'd say you're in good shape.
