Comments...and a smell
Husbands have opinions about everything it seems. And I would prefer it this way to the alternative. When we were planning the suite at my parents house Lance even surprised himself that he had opinions - and strong ones at that - about linoleum! So the other day it wasn't the least bit surprising that he had an opinion and commented about my blog.

I mentioned in passing that I hadn't received many comments on my blog lately - which wasn't surprising to me since I don't think the posts have been that interesting, more updates, than things to converse about. He said something to the effect of, "Oh yeah, I'd been thinking we should make some changes/spruce up your blog a bit" I thought he was referring to the template - which I am getting tired of - but he meant the content. "Needs more photos... and more stories...maybe it's just cause I'm a guy..." I was catching his drift. Hummingbird has been boring as of late and needs a little umph. No problem. I've got a story - but it just so happens to be about my husband. I couldn't get a straight answer out of him if this was alright to post, and since he's not home right now, and since he thinks there needs to be more stories here...

We had just returned from the school's year end retreat. It was a good weekend, crazy snowy weather, no so great drive home - complete with Eva barfing all over herself and carseat - and now we were home... and hungry. I wanted Panago. Lance, uncharacteristically suggests we eat something we already have at home. I wait awhile longer and he concedes. So pizza is on order. Lance shovels the foot of snow off our sidewalk, comes inside and changes clothes. We're lounging in the living room and I smell something. A not really describable smell. Human... but gross. "Did someone poop?", I ask. Nope, all's clear. Hmmm. A couple minutes later comes another hesitant question, "Did you sweat a lot doing that shoveling?" (I mean, it was a huge job) "yeah, why? do I stink". And here is an important detail that you need to know - Lance does not stink. Hardly ever. It is a rare occasion when he does. I am more stinky than he is. No lie. So it was perplexing to me that this scent - this awful scent - could be coming from him. Then he reveals the source, "It could be my shorts..." a pair of innocent looking Nike basketball shorts... "they're not clean". And that statement needs to be unpacked - by "not clean" he means, these shorts have been worn for a whole tournament's worth of basketball games, stuffed into a duffel bag and finally emerged to sit on top of the laundry pile for a week. Oh gross! Shorts were changed, smell disappeared. "I guess I made a mistake" he said.

And of course, a photo for you all:

My dear husband being dorky when all I wanted was a decent photo of him. He looks like a really happy cheesy dad here.

And by way of updates -

I made a pie today. For me. I loved it. It just so happened we were having Jonnie (friend and Lance's intern) over for supper, so it did double duty and worked with ice cream as a good desert. But in all honesty it was a "kids-are-super-cranky-and-mama-needs-a-treat-and-if-there-was-a-cookie-in-the-house-she'd-eat-it-even-though-it'd-make-things-worse" kind of morning so I made myself a pie (delicious sugar-free apple pie, had a frozen crust so it was really easy, the filling was just apples, cinnamon and apple juice concentrate, made a crumble topping out of homemade sugar-free granola and butter)

Soon I will be having another slice as my evening snack. Yum.

Oh, and for supper to go with steak and salad I made garlic mashed potatoes. Lance gave them his hearty stamp of approval. Just potatoes, milk, BUTTER, garlic (powder), a few green herbs (just for the green flecks really), salt, pepper and parmesean cheese. We've got leftovers so I'm thinking of giving shepherds pie a try tomorrow.

bye for now.

Great Story. My favorite part is how you "wait a little longer and he concedes" bit. I laughed.
And, thanks for the updates, I don't know if it's a girl thing but updates are awesome, even if it was just an update blog that'd be okay.
We are packing packing packing here but doing okay.
    Enjoy your pie~~Jena

That's funny--it was my brother who suggested I add photos more frequently to my blog.

Now that's practically all I publish. Whether it's a man thing or not, it does break up the text so effectively.

    You're so funny Aimee.

    Lance reminds me of Jeff.

Except it's volleyball and hockey shorts, sometimes even his hockey cup. nasty !

He's getting better though, when were first married it was worse, WAY worse.

I love your blog & don't think it is boring. I think women celebrate life with other women through the "day to day" stuff.

I love more photos and stories - especially at Lance's expense :) since it was his suggestion. But, your posts are always intersting to me.

    Love,
    Mom

    Of course, eh?

I can't believe that Lance even SUGGESTED that your blog might be borring! Of all the blogs I read, yours is the one I visit the most regularly. I LOVE hearing about the stories from your day to day lives. And I don't ever ask Mark if I can write about him. Lol. Some of his friends tease him that if they ever want to know what's going on in his life, all they have to do is read my blog. Poor guy. Anyway, I don't think you should change a thing.

    Great story.

I don't think your blog is the least bit boring. Actually, I look forward to reading your updates. Have you seen my blog lately? That's what I'd call boring.

i don't think i've ever read a boring post on your blog. most of the time i can relate to at least some part of what you write, so i always want to comment and say "ME TOO!" but then i feel as if i always comment that way, so i don't. :) i can't believe your husband is growing out what he calls "the tickler" saw it on facebook and just had to ask him what in the world he was doing!!
