Relief sort of - if you don't want to hear about toddler stool samples better skip this one :) |
we are doing a lot better. We stayed in the kitchen for a full day, each child threw up once. I even had one day off from changing sheets. Now I'm back at it. Eva has thrown up once an night for many days now, we don't know what this is about and are in contact with the doctor about it. Elijah threw up last night too. Yesterday and today have been consumed with trying to get a stool sample from Eva - was that an overshare? Well it's what I've been up to and maybe you have no idea how complicated it is to get an uncontaminated sample from a one and a half year-old. It has been a long week. But, the kids are just now waking up from an almost 2hr nap. What a treat for me. Lance is going on a school retreat for part of the weekend so he came home to see the kids, they were sleeping, so we ended up having lunch and a really good talk about the future.
Okay just got the kids up. Both of their diapers leaked (read, two more sets of sheets to change)! Eva's leaking only makes sense because her diaper is lined with saran wrap as per the labs instructions, and the bag that is supposed to catch her urine leaked, like the other two before it. Her pants were soaked. And still no poop! What a comedy of errors! I have spent much of today chasing a diaperless girl around the closed off kitchen waiting for her to poop so I can catch it on my paper plate. I know, it sounds crazy, it feels crazy too. We need a sample before 5 and if not I have the weekend off from this pursuit.
It has been a long week - wait a minute, I already wrote that. Well before you think I'm on the brink of insanity realized that I am writing the post in multiple sittings, so I really could remember if I already wrote that. Yesterday night Odegards babysat and we had a little date night. It was my first time out in three days! The kids are really feeling cooped up too and often request to go outside. It has been very cold, -21, but is now starting to warm up. So we shall venture out soon. Now that they are mostly feeling better I think we're all up for some outings. Maybe grocery shopping tonight...
Thought you may be interested to know that I am buying time to finish the post with multigrain Cheerios. They are a fan favorite and can extend the lunch time quite a bit longer. Especially for Elijah who has already requested a tray refill twice. Eva is proclaiming that she is done so I better go see if I can catch some poop. Please pray that I do.

Oh dear - poop on a plate. Wait til you suceed and Eva takes to acting that one out along with 'throw, thow' into a bowl.
Good to hear things are somewhat better - sorry that Eva is still mysteriously not herself.
Praying the poop and the plate have a needed and proper encounter. Oh - it's five where you are - so you have either succeeded or not. Hope you did.
Enjoy your weekend off.
Love you, Mom

poop on a plate. Motherhood is the bomb.
I remember when the big kids learned to throw up in a bucket, it was like a precious gift from heaven. (they mainly learned this from watching me throw up a million times when pregnant with Brianna)
Prayes for the swift recovery of everyone and that it doesn't hit mom. And if it does- that everyone is done and you can rest through.

I've never prayed for anyone to catch poop on a plate before, but for you I can do it.

Aimee, I'm sure that this situation isn't very enjoyable or laughable, but I sat here and laughed for quite a few minutes.
I hope your all feeling better soon!

Oh, Aimee, I hope your poop situation worked out! It was probably not very funny for you but it sure makes for a funny read! I will pray that you all will be feeling healthy soon.

These comments are hilarious. I am just shaking with laughter as I'm reading them. So generous of you to give us all this laughter - out of your difficulties.

My kids had the flu in November and it was awful. We have two sharing a bed and they took turns throwing up on each other. Then it was diarreah. I changed sheets every night and did laundry round the clock. I know how your feeling Aimee. I hope this is over soon and I hope you don't get this too.

I remember having to get a pee sample from Katelyn when she is tiny ... had to use this weird, impossible thing that looked like a mini vaccuum bag. Impossible. I'll bet in the end that whatever they have will go away & everything will be fine. But trying to catch poop on a plate makes for a great story. Also, it is good practise for when you potty train ... they will never poop when you anticipate it ... but as soon as you put on those training pants - out will come the poop. When Dan was 3.5 we were at a community wading pool. I thought he was trained. He came up to me & said, "I pooed in the pool." I said where & he pointed to the evidence. They had to evacuate 200 kids from the pool, remove the poo & re-chlorinate. The 17 year old lifeguard was gracious ... she said, "we get poo here, pee, vomit. We've seen it all." Still, I didn't show my face there again for 2 days.
