Hello friends. We are home. We drove all day Monday (with a couple of naps) and arrived in Camrose at 12am. Surprisingly we were not completely exhausted. Lance, always eager to organize, stayed up later than me getting our books and CDs in order.
I have been back to work - full-steam ahead. I have interns starting on Monday and I just sent their manuals off yesterday. Hopefully that will be okay. This coming week I will also need to work like crazy so I can get the rest of the manuals off so they arrive on time. A blessing from God has been that I have not been overwhelmed. Hmmm. I wonder if I asked Lance if he'd have a different response. I tend to forget rough times. Anyways, from this lazy Saturday afternoon vantagepoint, I don't think I was overwhelmed this week.
Graphic Design: I have been working on the design for Lance's CD. What a humongous job. Lance is particular and has changed his mind about what he wants... but last night we comitted to a layout and so this weekend and early next week I'm going to be setting up the pages. It's very detailed work and I've never done anything like it. Needless to say I am learning a lot! It has been a good experience. It is also good for Lance and I to learn how to communicate better.
Books: Last night I began an incredible book and thought I should blog about it. This morning I read Kristal's blog and she has "tagged" me with a little book survey type thing. This is totally up my alley. So here are some random thoughts about books:
First, I recently recommended the book "Gateway to Heaven", well that was before I finished the book. Still an excellent book, but a couple of problems. The book is too long and thus can get boring and encourage skim reading. It could have been about a third shorter than it was. Be forewarned. It also deals with the issue of homosexuality. I think it addresses it well and realistically, though it can be uncomfortable to read at times. Anyways, still a good book.
BOOKS FOR YOUNGER READERS (10-12?) I, like Kristal, loved reading "Elizabeth Gail" books when I was young. They're about a 12ish year old girl who gets adopted into a great family after being in foster homes. She's always getting into trouble and is a lot of fun. I also liked the "An American Adventure" series by Lee Roddy -- set in the Ozarks in the Great Depression. I always identified with the tomboyish girl. Finally, the "Adventures of the Northwoods" series by Lois Walfreid Johnson. This series centers around Kate growing up on a farm in Wisconsin. Many of the characters are scandinavian (part of my heritage) so I felt an extra connection.
HOW MANY BOOKS DO I OWN? Too many to count, especially if you include Lance's. We've got books coming out of our ears. We have four full Ikea bookshelves.
LAST BOOK I READ WAS: Hmmm. Let me think. This summer I read: "Gateway to Heaven" by VanAuken, "Skipping Christmas" by Grisham (a one night read, interesting, not gripping) I began, "I am the Clay" by Chaim Potok -- different than his other books. Instead of being about Jewish people, this book is set in Asia and written in a somewhat different style, I just couldn't get into it. I do highly recommend his book, "My Name is Asher Lev" - about a Jewish boy and his struggle to come to terms with his artistic gifts and his orthodox Jewish family -- excellent!
CURRENTLY READING: I am currently reading "Creative Call" by Elsheimer. This has been a good book for me as I am trying to pay attention to God's plan for my life, particularly in relation to my artistic gifts. Its a workbook for Christians who are trying to take their artform seriously and learn to consider themselves artisits. I am also reading, "Travelling light" by Max Lucado - almost done, an excellent book to read devotionally about the 23 Psalm and the burdens God doesn't intend for us to bear. Finally I am reading, "The Road to Reality" -- this book is convicting to say the least. I'm hungry right now so maybe I'll save the details of this book for another blog.
I'll finish book recommendations another time. Off to eat some lunch.
